GRETA (2018) Visual Review

David the Bruce • February 27, 2019

A Unique Review Using Graphic Visuals. Enjoy!

A sweet, naïve young woman trying to make it on her own in New York City, Frances (Chloë Grace Moretz) doesn’t think twice about returning the handbag she finds on the subway to its rightful owner. That owner is Greta (Isabelle Huppert), an eccentric French piano teacher with a love for classical music and an aching loneliness. Having recently lost her mother, Frances quickly grows closer to widowed Greta. The two become fast friends — but Greta’s maternal charms begin to dissolve and grow increasingly disturbing as Frances discovers that nothing in Greta’s life is what it seems.

VISUAL REVIEW

Here is my visual review done in an original visual style with several graphics that work you through the film.

The word ‘Frenemy’ takes on its fullest meaning in this film. Here is a ‘Fatal Attraction’ type of neo-noir for a new generation. Haven’t we all been suckered by a self-proclaimed friend. Haven’t we all been made a chump. Here is an over the top film that speaks to what we all have been through. It is a cautionary tale about love and trust. Shakespeare wrote, “Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.” This is hard to do. Love is what you freely give, but trust needs to be earned. This film reminds us never to confuse the two.
