Step
Brother Stomps X-Files
A
few weeks ago it seemed like a no brainer. “The X-Files: I Want to Believe” would beat
out “Step Brothers”. Roger Ebert even gave The X-Files
a 4 ½ out of 5 approval score. He had nothing really good
to say about Step Brothers, focusing on the over-the-top language.
On opening weekend I noticed that “The X-Files” pulled
a mere $10 million and Step Brothers brought in a substantial $30M.
I was blown away.
I really
liked the title “The X-Files: I Want to Believe.” I
though, here is a film that would connect with a lot of people,
because so many struggle with their faith. Remembering Will
Farrell’s unfunny comedy Semi-Pro opening weekend –a
$15M flop– earlier this year, I was not looking forward
to Step Brothers.
So, I
admit that I do not get it. The only saving grace this past
weekend was “The Dark Knight” which held the
#1 position with an amazing $75M! Did anyone else find the
low box-office for the once popular X-Files perplexing?
