In "Spider-Man 3," based on the legendary Marvel Comics series, Peter Parker has finally managed to strike a balance between his devotion to M.J. and his duties as a superhero. But there is a storm brewing on the horizon. When his suit suddenly changes, turning jet-black and enhancing his powers, it transforms Peter as well, bringing out the dark, vengeful side of his personality that he is struggling to control. Under the influence of the suit, Peter becomes overconfident and starts to neglect the people who care about him most. Forced to choose between the seductive power of the new suit and the compassionate hero he used to be, Peter must overcome his personal demons as two of the most-feared villains yet, Sandman and Venom, gather unparalleled power and a thirst for retribution to threaten Peter and everyone he loves. — More here

A
dazzling kick-off to the summer '07 movie season
Michael Rechtshaffen
Hollywood Reporter
The biggest (with a production budget due north of $250 million) and longest
(clocking in at 139 minutes) and quite possibly the capper of a trilogy featuring
the current talent lineup, "Spider-Man 3" has done it again.
Spidey the Swinger
David Ansen
Newsweek
In 'Spider-Man 3,' our once reluctant hero gets a little cocky—until
he discovers his dark side.... Spider-Man 3 is nothing if not
eclectic, but somehow this ambitious mishmash works. Action-packed,
with all the digital fireworks that a $250 million (or more)
budget can buy, it's both the most grandiose chapter and the
nuttiest.
Stuck
in a rut
Todd McCarthy
Variety
The three main recurring characters get stuck in a rut and the
same can be said of the film itself in "Spider-Man 3." After
the significant improvement of the second installment over the
first, new entry reps a roughly equivalent dip in quality and enjoyment,
with Spidey now giving off the faint odor of running on fumes.
A
notch below the first "Spider-Man,"
Michael Phillips
Chicago Tribune
Three films in, how is New York's premier webmaster holding up?
Not badly; not spectacularly.
