Revolution Studios' sexy thriller "Perfect Stranger" asks the question: how far would you go to keep a secret? When investigative reporter Rowena Price (Halle Berry) learns that her friend's murder might be connected to powerful ad executive Harrison Hill (Bruce Willis), she goes undercover with the help of her associate, Miles Hailey (Giovanni Ribisi). Posing as Katherine, a temp at Hill's agency, and Veronica, a girl Hill flirts with online, Rowena surrounds her prey from all sides, only to discover that she isn't the only one changing identities. The closer Rowena gets to finding the truth, the more we see how far people will go to protect it. — More here |

Halle Berry's strong performance
and a cool twist overcomes conventional plot
Harvey S. Karten,
COMPUSERVE
The film could have used more moments of tension but bears particular
merit in Halle Berry's stunning portrayal of obsessive behavior.
Bruce Willis and Giovanni Ribisi do well as her foils, while the
computer, particularly its capacity for sexy instant messenging,
serves nicely as a silent, uncredited performer.
Derives some novelty value from its colorblind casting

Village Voice
But as a thriller, it's so by-the-numbers that it's hardly worth
keeping count. In the end, so much damning evidence has been amassed
against nearly all the main characters that the final revelation
feels like the one that merely tested the best. Perhaps, Clue-style,
they should have included them all. It certainly would have lent
new meaning to the expression, "Colonel Mustard did it in
the pantry."
A twist-burdened techno-thriller that would be by-the-numbers
if it could count. (one star out of four)

Empire
There’s little storytelling craft in evidence and scant regard
for the planting of subtle clues. Instead, we trudge down the occasional
blind alley, chewing joylessly on a scrap or two of past-its-sell-by-date
red herring before we stumble over the point in the script where
it says “[insert twist here]”. That said twist is inserted
with all the finesse of a square peg bludgeoned hurriedly into
a round hole only adds insult to injury.
Perfect Stranger Grade: C

The commercial success of "Gothika," Halle Berry's previous
star vehicle, must have encouraged her and Revolution Studio to
make "Perfect Stranger," a techno noir thriller about
deceit, duplicity, conspiracy, and how a person's traumatic past
continues to exert fatal influence on the present.
