license-to-wed-034.jpg (300 K) Plot Summary: "License to Wed" follows newly engaged Ben Murphy (John Krasinski) and his fiancée, Sadie Jones (Mandy Moore), in their quest to live happily ever after. The problem is that Sadie's family church, St. Augustine's, is run by Reverend Frank (Robin Williams), who won't bless Ben and Sadie's union until they pass his patented, "foolproof" marriage-prep course. Consisting of outrageous classes, outlandish homework assignments and some outright invasion of privacy, Reverend Frank's rigorous curriculum puts Ben and Sadie's relationship to the test. Forget happily ever after—do they even have what it takes to make it to the altar? More here

No surprises, but still a sweet romantic comedy
Amy Biancolli
Houston Chronicle

Krasinski affirms that he can carry more than a desk job on The Office, and Moore plays straight gal in a film that improves, at least, on her last role in the ugh-inducing Because I Said So. License to Wed doesn't fail her this time.

It's like Meet the Parents with Dr. Phil as the officiant from hell. Grade: C
Owen Gleiberman
Entertainment Weekly

The creepy-faced robot twin babies are funny (for a while); the rest of the film is not.

Warner Bros. should see its theatrical stay quickly annulled.
Brian Lowry
Variety

Unleashing Robin Williams in the least flattering possible manner, License to Wed squanders the modest chemistry between its appealing central couple uniting its elements in an astonishingly flat romantic comedy.

This "License" should expire a week after opening.
Kirk Honeycutt
Hollywood Reporter

Comedies don't get much lamer than License to Wed. Working from a flawed premise with characters lacking credibility and plot turns more moronic than funny, the movie flatlines in about five minutes.
