Performances are all top notch and the production design is spectacular, while the effects are seamless; the Dragonian work is fluid and helps create the fantasy world into which audiences are drawn...

I can’t help but wince at the sight of Jeremy Irons and dragons.

I think by now you get the idea. There are elements from Star Wars (Jedi training by an old master), LotR and other fantasy/sci-fi works. These elements has served the author well because they’ve created a heated debate between critics and readers. The movie will hopefully strike a similar cord with audiences...

Although this appears like Lord of the Rings Lite, Eragon has much more in common with Star Wars.

Yet up in the front row, Eragon is a fun ride. The film maintains a powerful visual style. Soaring above grimy, medieval forests, Saphira the dragon is seamlessly integrated into rip-snorting, if somewhat cheesy, action. As Obi-Wan, er, Brom, Jeremy Irons brings gravitas to the role of mentor and is a weighty foil to energetic newcomer Ed Speleers and the theatricality of King Malkovich and his juicy sorcerer, Robert Carlyle. Eragon eschews the sense of tragedy that permeates companion pieces and is certainly in touch with the daring-do attitude of its matinee heritage; displeasing few, cheering many...
